Roger Williams announces REALTOR® support for U.S. House Election bid

By National Association of REALTORS®

Roger Williams, candidate for Congress in the 25th Congressional District of Texas, announced support today from RPAC, the political arm of the National Association of REALTORS®, following a unanimous recommendation from the Texas Association of REALTORS® Political Action Committee. In a statement, Texas Association of REALTORS® Chairman, Joe Stewart, cited Williams’ experience as a small business owner and his understanding of housing issues as the primary reason for their support.

"Roger Williams will be a strong leader for REALTORS® and homeowners. Roger understands that proposed requirements to put 20% downpayments for all conventional loans to fit new mortgage standards would hurt an already fragile housing market. Roger knows that this ill-conceived regulation would leave homeownership out of reach for nearly all first-time homebuyers. Roger also believes that owning a home is a vital part of the American Dream. He will fight to ensure that the tax code encourages homeownership and will be a champion for the continuation of the mortgage interest deduction.” said Stewart.

“In Congress, I have every confidence Roger Williams will continue to stand up for homeowners and REALTORS® and ensure our voice is heard,” continued Stewart. “Now more than ever, Roger Williams’ own experience as a successful businessman is just what Texas and the nation need from those representing us in Washington.”

“I am proud and grateful to have the support of such large and influential state and national organizations,” said Mr. Williams. “The Texas and National Associations of REALTORS® represent an industry that has been significantly impacted during this economic downturn. As a United States Congressman, I look forward to working with them to not only accelerate our housing market recovery, but also encourage the broader economic growth that stems from a strong housing market.”

The National Association of REALTORS® was founded in 1908 and is America’s largest trade association with approximately 1.1 million members including NAR’s five commercial real estate institutes and its societies and councils. REALTORS® are involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries and belong to one or more of some 1,400 local associations or boards, and 54 state and territory associations of REALTORS®.
